It is without a doubt the best thing to dip bread in or dress a salad with. While it can be used for pretty much all types of cooking, there are times when the strong flavor will overwhelm the dish.
- Olive oil. This is often branded “pure olive oil”. This doesn’t have the same strength of taste and it’s perfect for frying, roasting, etc. when you want a little taste of the olive oil in the dish.
- Extra-light olive oil. The “light” isn’t about calories it is about the color and taste of the finished product. When you use olive oil but don’t really want much of the flavor to transfer to your food or you just want a mild flavor – this is the way to go.

However, the best guide is this – don’t buy any bottle of oil that seems to be a lot cheaper than the equivalent oils around it. This is almost always an indicator that’s it’s not great. The best olive oil for cooking in your home is going to be within your budget.

Our final note is that olive oil keeps for about a year when you don’t open the bottle but once it’s open it only lasts for 6-8 weeks at its best.
So, buy the right size for your consumption and never buy too big a bottle.
