Cork Dork Is A Geeky Wine-Fueled Journey

This Cork Dork book review fills a gap here at Kitchen Authority.

It’s a funny thing but we haven’t talked much as yet on Kitchen Authority about the perfect partner for food. Wine!

Yet, without wine, the kitchen would definitely be a poorer place and social eating occasions would be far less interesting.

Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live for Taste by Bianca Bosker is the perfect introduction to why wine matters and how it works with our food.

You can also check out our Wine Pairing Guide for additional information about the connection between food and wine.

From The Horse’s Mouth

If you’d like to know a little more about the “Cork Dork” then why not check out Bosker’s quick explanation of what inspired her to begin her journey in wine and how little she knew about the subject back then?

See the video above!

It’s quite fascinating. “Grape juice with alcohol?” Ouch.

Here’s an excerpt of the scathing insights you can expect.

“When he poured a taste of Madeira for the Master Sommelier at my table, a splash of wine hit the rim of the glass. The entire table grew silent and not a single person, Morgan included, breathed as we watched the fat, juicy brown droplet roll, as if in slow motion, over the outside rim, along the glass’s side, and down the stem to the foot of the glass. It was like a turd smeared on a wedding gown.”

Our Cork Dork Book Review Is Positive

I found myself really drawn into Bosker’s book

I don’t think I was quite as clueless about wine as the Cork Dork when she began but I really didn’t have as solid a grip on the subject as a sommelier does either.

Cork Dork Book Review

I found her whimsy and passion for the subject, refreshing and it drew me in.

I can conclusively say that I know far more about wine now than when I started and, as importantly, I very much enjoyed the process of learning.

You can’t ask for more than that from a book. Bottom line, this Cork Dork book review is a big thumbs up!

You can buy Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live for Taste on Amazon.

It’s very much worth it.
