Dash Compact Toaster Oven – Small But Less Than Perfectly Formed

This Dash Compact Toaster Oven is one of our top picks in our recent guide to toaster ovens here on Kitchen Authority.

It has an incredible amount of features for a low priced toaster oven, sadly, it’s also not very pretty (at least in our opinion) but if you can overlook that, it’s a steal at the price.

Criteria for Review of the Dash Compact Toaster Oven

We like to compare like for like with all of our products and with toaster ovens we begin by looking at the size of the product. The Dash is a small toaster oven and you’re not going to get a huge amount inside but this is fairly reflected in the price.

Functionality is a big deal and you get a lot in the Dash. You can bake to your heart’s content bagels, pizzas, paninis, cookies, etc. are easy.

The temperature control is well graded, and it has an auto shut down function to make sure your house won’t burn down if you forget your dinner is inside.

It’s a great alternative to a full-featured range oven for a young couple or a student.

Price matters for toaster ovens. There is a huge amount of variation in pricing. I don’t think that spending more than $100 on a toaster oven is worth it.

Unless you have a huge family by the time you get up to that price range – you could be buying a quality second-hand oven instead. Fortunately, the Dash is about $30.

The final criterion is the quality of build and this is a surprisingly solid build that we think will last for a fairly long time. That means the Dash is brilliant value for money.

  1. IMO it’s quite pretty, in a spartan kind of way. I don’t mind it on the counter in my kitchen one bit. BTW it does come in a couple of other colors besides grey, if you can find one.

The best part of this is that it is a bare-bones toaster oven that just works. Just two knobs. No buttons. No digital display. And the price is right.

It has zero bells and whistles,,, well, except for the single-ding bell that goes off when the mechanical timer runs out.

To bake, you set the thermostat and timer.

To broil, you set the thermostat to the maximum (450 degrees) and set the timer. Toasting is the same – usually about 3 minutes for bread or an English muffin.

I have one of these and it’s just great. And it certainly won’t break the bank.
