We have a strong relationship with toasted sandwiches here at Kitchen Authority.
In fact, our first Kitchen Authority Guide was for sandwich makers.
However, we think Heidi Gibson takes things to a whole new level in her book Grilled Cheese Kitchen: Bread + Cheese + Everything in Between.
If you want to write a book, you ought to be an expert and there is no bigger expert on grilled cheese than Heidi Gibson.
Heidi has seven grilled cheese championship wins under her belt and along with her husband Nate, she runs the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in San Francisco.
This, we think, makes her THE voice of authority in Grilled Cheese sandwiches.
Inside the book, you will find 39 recipes of Heidi’s creation. I’ve been eating one a day since I got the cookbook.
Our favorite is “The Piglet” (a combination of thinly sliced ham and sharp cheddar) and there’s definitely something there to suit every taste (assuming you like cheese, that is).
Heidi deconstructs each sandwich, explaining the choices of ingredients and why they pair in the way that they do with the other ingredients.
She also spends a great amount of effort on selecting the right bread for a grilled cheese.
It would be a pretty short recipe book if all it featured was 39 sandwiches.
So, Heidi has also put together 40 more recipes that look at the best side dishes and accompaniments for the sandwiches that she loves.
Her spicy pickles are excellent, and the recipe was really easy to follow. My husband says that they’re the best thing he’s tasted this year.
If you love grilled cheese sandwiches, then you need the Grilled Cheese Kitchen: Bread + Cheese + Everything in Between in your life.
