Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci is an American foodie’s hero. Not only is he obsessed with great food but he’s also one of our finest actors.

He’s previously written two amazing cookbooks based on his childhood in an authentic Italian American household – The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table

Taste, however, is more than a cookbook. It’s the story of the food that he loves and we think you’re going to adore it as much as we do.

About Stanley Tucci’s Taste

It’s funny but even though most of us eat, at least once a day, many of us never really reflect on the food that we consume. It’s just there and then it’s not.

Stanley’s Taste is all about how food and life come together to create great stories that run beyond the table and to the heart of family living.

You learn, for example, how he fell in love over dinner with his wife-to-be and how they, as a couple, now love to create new tastes and new experiences for their children.

Why We Love Taste

The thing we love most about Taste is that it doesn’t pull any punches and it’s not afraid of examining the failures in the kitchen as well as the successes.

Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci

This is very important to us because, otherwise, it could have become an unappealing saccharine sweet retelling of food that Stanley has known and loved but which we weren’t present for.

Instead, we have every burned plate as well as each time the food rose to the standards of a Michelin 3-star chef.

And it’s laced with humor and compassion and a real abiding passion for good that makes it utterly compelling.

By the time we finished reading Taste, we felt like we’d spent an afternoon at Stanley’s table and that we’d enjoyed the meals he made as much as he and his family had.

This isn’t a cookbook so much as it is a testament to the joy and power of cooking at home andd sharing food with the people you love and that’s probably why it was named by the NPR and The Washington Post as one of last year’s most notable books.

Final Thoughts On Stanley Tucci And Taste

We love cookbooks here at Kitchen Authority. Each and every one of us has dozens of them lining our kitchen shelves – we’re always in the search of a new flavor or combination of flavors or complex texture.

But Taste rises above that, it gives us more than a Taste of food, it also gives us a Taste of the life and times of one America’s all-time greats. Everyone should check it out.

If you like Taste, we think you’ll also enjoy Kitchens Without Borders, The Vintage Baker and My Shanghai all of which help to elevate the cookbook into something more than just recipes.
