I love modern and trendy chefs. I can watch them for hours on the TV or on YouTube as they show off their brand-new creations and fancy ingredients from all corners of the globe. But… I also sometimes have a hankering for something simpler.
In our rush to discover new things, we often forget the old. I once found a cheese pie recipe from the 17th century in a book in our library and it was delicious. I don’t think anyone but me has made that in 200 years.
So, I was delighted when I picked up a review copy of The Vintage Baker: More Than 50 Recipes from Butterscotch Pecan Curls To Sour Cream Jumble by Jessie Sheehan.
It’s all about the tradition.

Cooking Has A Noble History
There are other jobs described as “the oldest profession” but I’d say that if one of the first real jobs wasn’t “a cook”, I’d be pretty surprised.
Food has always been essential, and many wonderful culinary traditions lead to our dining room tables today. If you have time watch the Let’s Cook History channel for some insights.
I’ve got my favorite episode here on The French Revolution: It’s really good. Watch it if you get a chance!
Vintage Baker Is Really Good Too
The recipes are interesting, inventive and whilst traditional, they are still very much relevant.
My family loves the Butterscotch Pecan Curls of the title and we’ll be trying many more of these in the months to come.
The Vintage Baker: More Than 50 Recipes from Butterscotch Pecan Curls To Sour Cream Jumble by Jessie Sheehan hits all the right notes for me. I love it!
